Among climate change impacts, sea level rise stands out because even if humans stopped emitting greenhouse gases today, global oceans would continue to absorb excess heat, expand, and rise for centuries. Because we are nowhere close to stopping greenhouse gas emissions, sea level rise is among the more certain impacts—it’s not a question of if, but rather when.
Given that Bainbridge is an island, we are acutely vulnerable to this phenomenon. Puget Sound’s shoreline has risen over the past century, and it is certain to rise much more for centuries to come. This presentation will provide information on how sea level rise will impact Bainbridge Island.
