Speaker: Dr. Jim Krieger
It seems like everyone is talking about ultraprocessed foods (UPF). In this Bainbridge Island Science Café, Dr. Jim Krieger, Clinical Professor Emeritus at University of Washington School of Public, will discuss this controversial topic. UPF have been linked to overconsumption of food, weight gain, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and mental health problems. More than half the calories consumed by Americans come from UPF. Policies are needed to reduce harms from excessive UPF production, marketing and consumption. Yet identifying them in the supermarket is challenging, as is defining them when considering policy options. Come join us as we discuss these issues and answer your questions.
